Netflix will not return the keys to the reality series Buy London as the top streaming service cancelled the show after one season, and I can't help but feel a little disappointed.
A Netflix spokeswoman confirmed the cancellation to Deadline in early September and declined to comment further, but I think its terrible 14% score on Rotten Tomatoes is enough of an explanation as to why. Buy London was deleted by the streamer.
The reality show made a brief appearance in the Netflix top 10 for a week, but failed to match the huge success of its critically acclaimed American counterpart. Sunset SaleCritics didn’t exactly praise the show too much, with The Guardian writing in its scathing zero-star review that it’s “the most hated TV show ever made” (ouch!). Netflix subsequently used the publication’s review to promote the show on X (see post below), which likely helped it land a spot on the streaming service’s top 10 list, as well as on my TV screen.

The series is a British alternative to one of my all-time favorite reality shows. Sunset Sale (so of course I had to watch it) and it is a spin-off of Buy Beverly Hillswhich was also cancelled by Netflix. The show follows real estate mogul Daniel Daggers and his DDRE Global agents as they navigate London’s prestigious property market. Like its predecessor, there are mega mansions, office gossip, and feuds between friends, but they’re definitely not as juicy as the drama I’ve seen across the pond on Selling Sunset.
While Buy London It failed to capture my attention as much as Sunset sale, The news of its cancellation, which was not a surprise, was a small pain in the heart after watching three TV shows with lower ratings on Netflix. Yes, Buy London It's not one of Netflix's best shows, it has no style or substance and it won't win any awards, but that doesn't stop it from being enjoyable.
Buy London It doesn't pretend to be something it's not. It's a reality show, plain and simple. It serves its purpose of providing casual, mindless entertainment to escape our lives and shut us out from the world when we desperately need it. And that's something I think is important in the streaming world.
From London to Los Angeles
There are still plenty of loose ends in the series: Did Agent Lauren Christy leave DDRE to join a rival firm? Is there still bad blood between her and colleague Rasa Bagdonaviciute due to Daniel's apparent favoritism? Interestingly, I wanted answers to these questions in a Buy London second season and snoop around in more mega-rich homes than I could ever afford. But I guess I'll have to settle for Sunset Sale To move forward.
In stark contrast to Buy London, sell Sunset took the world by storm when it first aired in 2019 and has become a huge hit for Netflix's reality TV portfolio. The Emmy-nominated series goes behind the scenes of the cutthroat world of Los Angeles real estate as it follows a group of glamorous female agents from The Oppenheim Group who sell luxury properties to elite buyers.

Sunset SaleThe success of the series has since spawned an eighth season and two spin-offs. Tampa for sale and Selling the OCSo it is clear that this type of content is very popular with the public.
While Buy London is yet another cancelled Netflix show, it doesn't seem to be all bad, as a spokeswoman for Daniel Daggers Real Estate Global told Deadline: “Buy London “It did exactly what we wanted – it allowed us to put DDRE Global on an international stage and, as a result, generated record interest in our business. We are at the forefront of 'contemporizing' an archaic industry by embracing new technologies and ways of communicating with communities of like-minded people – something we have been doing since 2020 and which is what caught Netflix's attention in the first place. Our work is just beginning and there is still much more of our story to tell. Stay tuned…”
