I have tried a new coffee maker every month during the last year here in Techradar, and there have been some real gems.
Jura J10, for example, is a totally automatic power to create cold and hot drinks just by touching a button, while the Smeg Mini Pro manual is frankly beautiful and excellent for consistency.
However, no matter how many other machines try, there is still a sitting at the counter of my kitchen at the end of the day: the Classic Pro gaggia.
It is a small very popular manual espresso coffee machine, and for a good reason. It is very fun to use, it is a dream of Tinkerer, and around $ 500 / £ 400 / Au $ 800 also has a moderate price.
There is much to like this machine. In our review of Gaggia Classic Pro, we declare that it is a “well -built and well -built appliance” and that “it proved to be very easy to elaborate intense and soft espressos with very little required experimentation.”
However, when it is new, Lady Gaggia (as we call her at home) is not without her peculiarities.
For example, there are no masses of space between the portfilter and the drip tray, which means that you can only place small cups underneath (it usually uses a glass of pacifier with printed measurements on the side). In addition, the tray is so narrow that you can forget to put a scale under to weigh the coffee while dripping.
There is also no PID driver to maintain the stable temperature as if you get in some premium coffee machines, and the small gaggia boiler means that you could run out of steam (literally) before you finish preparing your milk.
The advantage is that there is a large community of fans who play with this small very popular machine, sharing advice and even selling kits that allow it to modify it to the content of your heart, as the example in the publication of Reddit below.
Boys I finally did the update to a PID of Barista Gadgets. of R/Gaggiaclassic
For example, Barista Gadgets based in the USA. UU. And the coffee tones from the United Kingdom Sitter sell longer drip trays that can accommodate a less deep scale and trays so you can use a larger cup. There are also devices that continually add a small amount of water to the boiler, so you can keep steamed milk for a longer time without drying out.
Shades of Coffee does and sells heads for the machine's steam arm, in addition to colored lighting kits to illuminate the water tank so you can see the level more easily (and that makes a PC look like a PC for games). And if your gaggia does not look great enough, you can even collect a wooden knob to replace the plastic that controls the steam pressure.
Do you really feel Geek? Guggiuino take a look, which is an open source project that aims to make your machine as consistent as possible, allowing you to control the pressure, temperature and flow of each shot.
