5G automotive associationJasp Outsight, Safran Passenger Innovations and Air Alliance Flose embark on a trip with GSMA to accelerate the new connectivity services
March 3, 2025, Barcelona – The GSMA, the Global Association of the Mobile Industry, today announced new strategic associations with leading organizations in the automotive and aviation sectors. Through these associations, the GSMA will work on behalf of the mobile industry to better understand the connectivity needs of these sectors and support the development of advanced connectivity solutions that improve the safety, efficiency and customer experience.
Organizations that are associated with the GSMA on these collaborations include the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), the Automotive Software Platform and Architecture of Japan (Jaspar), Outsight, Safran Passenger Innovations and Seamless Air Alliance. This is based on a similar cooperation association signed with the Automotive Edge Computing consortium in October, last year.
Within the GSMA, these activities will be directed by GSMA Fusion, the recently formed initiative of the organization, established to directly listen to the voice of companies at the industry level and identify the unattered needs that today's advanced networks can provide. As part of GSMA Open Gateway, Fusion works with industries such as automotive, aviation, financial services, manufacturing, media and others to accelerate the demand of 5G based on API and other solutions, and to offer new transformative services for companies.
Mats Granryd, general director, GSMA, said: “The associations that we announce today, through GSMA Fusion, provide a strong direction from these industries to ours, helping the mobile ecosystem really to meet the needs of the automotive and aviation sectors and take advantage of the power of mobile connectivity to create innovative solutions that improve the safety, efficiency and experience of the client. When we launched the GSMA Open Gateway initiative in MWC Barcelona two years ago, we declare that our ambition to unlock all the potential of 5G networks for all industries through universal access and open APIs and the association that has just announced is a step in that direction in that direction. ”
Aviation industry: Collaborations with Passenger Innovations from Air Alliance, Outsight and Safran de Safran will aim to improve the efficiency, safety and satisfaction of the client in the aviation sector. These associations will explore the potential of 5G technology to allow connectivity on the flight, the diagnosis of real -time aircraft, predictive maintenance and the best optimization of the flight route. The additional approach areas will be a perfect flight connectivity and the smartest airports with complete monitoring of the passenger trip, with automated verifications, AR navigation and a better luggage tracking.
Automotive industry: The GSMA associations with 5gaa and Jaspar, in addition to the association with AECC, will focus on integrating advanced connectivity to boost innovation in autonomous driving, smart cities and mobility solutions. By taking advantage of 5G technology, the automotive sector can improve safety, efficiency and sustainability, paving the path for the future of transport.
According to McKinsey's research, GSMA Open Gateway and other network API initiatives can unlock significant value for the telecommunications industry, and companies that use 5G networks in the next five years. It is forecast that, if operators can expose more of their Networks and Innovations API to the communities of business developers and cloud suppliers, then they can unlock an additional market opportunity of $ 25 billion of the automotive sector and up to $ 30 billion of the travel, transport and logistics sectors by 2030.
The GSMA Open Gateway initiative accelerates in 2025
Throughout two years ago, the Open Gateway GSMA is an initiative that guarantees that mobile operators can provide business developers standardized access to a range of network functions used to create applications and services. By gathering operators around the world, the initiative facilitates the design of digital products that can work without problems in all devices, regardless of the country or operator. This is achieved through unique access points, known as API (application programming interfaces), which serve as a link doors for information on the network capabilities. These APIs are available through the camera repository, an open source project compatible with Linux Foundation, GSMA and TM Forum.
More than 72 groups of mobile operators, representing 284 networks and almost 80% of mobile connections worldwide have already registered to participate in the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, with 52 commercial releases.
In addition to reaching business developers through GSMA Fusion, the organization has also built a large ecosystem of channel partners and ecosystem partners to help mobile operators to market their API and reach new sectors. More than 35 partners, including Alibaba Cloud, AWS, Bridge Alliance, Glide, Infobip, Microsoft, Nokia, Shush and Zte, are now actively working with business operators and developers to launch new digital services.
Last year, operators around the world from Argentina to China, France and the United Kingdom to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, have marketed and launched API services to help online banks, Fintechs and retail to improve safety and address online fraud. In addition, the mobile industry is now focusing its attention on a variety of new services and innovations, including quality APIs to request to allow a safe drone flight, robotics, extended reality and immersive online games services in 5G networks. The road map includes greater connectivity development for network reduction, cybersecurity and cloud qualification.
The GSMA will also exhibit more GSMA Open Gateway and Fusion activity at MWC Barcelona 2025, including the GSMA Open Gateway Devcon on Tuesday, March 4thWhere Isaac Bess – Chief of global distribution at Tiktok, Mark Smith, strategic advisor of IBC and Nick Venezia and founder of Centillion.AI will discuss how telecommunications and media industries can work better in identity and verification. The GSMA Open Gateway Devcon will take place at Talent Arena, along with Hackathon Open Gateway. Developers will test their projects in realistic conditions in live networks, with access to the latest network API. Mobile World Capital is also bringing 180 developers in Paris on a charter flight with Vueling and 70 developers on a high -speed Madrid train with Iro.
The GSMA will also exhibit Network API in practice in the entrance zone of GSMA Open Gateway in Hall 4, which demonstrates a variety of examples, including a demonstration of Nokia cars and Elmo that shows how to remotely conduct a car in Finland using API.
