GSMA ADVANCE TRAINING will empower communities around the world with digital training and development of avant -garde skills

March 4, 2025, Barcelona: The GSMA announced today the launch of a new skills training initiative aimed at addressing digital poverty and joining digital division.

In association with the N50 project, GSMA Advance, the skills and training division of the mobile industry association, will offer at least 100 totally sponsored scholarships to individuals and communities around the world, which gives them access to specialized digital training resources and educational courses.

Through the scholarships, applicants will be able to promote their knowledge through the GSMA Advance curriculum in the latest advances in mobile technology. These scholarships represent a vital component of the widest shared strategy of GSMA and the N50 project to connect thousands of millions of people currently excluded from digital opportunities, which allows unattended communities to prosper in an increasingly connected world.

Speaking in MWC25 Barcelona, Dr. Drew Macfarlane, head of GSMA Advance, said: “Digital connectivity is no longer a privilege: it is crucial for future social development. Our Association with the N50 project marks a significant step to strengthen skills and professional development within the mobile and telecommunications industry. By equipping individuals and communities with specific knowledge and tools of the industry, we are practically taking measures to close the digital division, while promoting innovation, economic growth and long -term sustainability within the mobile ecosystem. “

Daniel Gutwein, CEO N50 Project, said: “In the N50, we are committed to eliminating digital poverty by bringing connectivity, technology and opportunity to all communities. Through this collaboration with GSMA, we are not only expanding access but also equip people with critical workforce development skills. This association exemplifies the transformative impact of digital access, creating ways towards economic opportunities and a better future for all ”.

A unified mission to accelerate worldwide connectivity

Currently, 3.45 billion people are not connected to mobile internet services, the overwhelming majority (90%) of which live in areas with available coverage they are not using. These people fall into what is called 'use gap' and is the product of a series of barriers, including affordability problems, lack of digital skills and literacy, and concerns about safety or lack of relevant or localized content. This initiative incorporates the GSMA commitment to unlock all the power of connectivity by promoting collaboration between industries, governments and local communities.

Greater connectivity in disadvantaged areas can generate transformative benefits, from better access to medical care to high quality educational opportunities and agricultural best practices to greater financial inclusion.

By increasing standards, addressing skills gaps and guaranteeing access to high quality learning opportunities, the GSMA project and the N50 project aim to democratize digital access and create a more equitable global digital panorama.
