Although users of the best Chromebooks have access to three types of apps (web apps that run through the Chrome browser, apps in the Google Play Store, and apps that run using the Linux development environment), they can often be disorganized. and be difficult to find. However, a new online store will now make that task much easier.
According to 9to5Google, it looks like Google will launch the App Mall online tool, which will help Chromebook users find new apps. Currently, the App Mall is in early testing and is locked behind a flag at chrome://flags, but we know that eventually the Mall will be a link to a discover.apps.chrome website (for now the site is not live).
So far, we can assume that this new App Mall will feature Android, web and gaming apps at first as they are already included in the built-in 'Explore' app. Later, we should also get other features.
Google continues to improve Chrome
This new App Mall is a feature that has been a long time coming. While there are many benefits to using Chrome OS, the app system is easily the worst thing about the operating system. It's incredibly difficult to navigate and locate the apps you want, despite the numerous options available. Hopefully, once this new store opens to the general public, it will be a much-needed improvement for Chrome.
This isn't the first major improvement recently made to Chrome, either. Google enhanced on-device capabilities to have Chrome on iOS and Android devices show search results when your internet connection is not the best. It also means you'll get better suggestions when you use incognito mode.
Other improvements to search are also coming, including previous results that influence your current search once you reopen a tab. For example, searching for “Japchae” on Google means that the next time you open a new search tab it will show those search results, but also “People also search” suggestions.
Google has been updating its services across the board, be it for Chrome OS, Google Search, wearable devices, and more. It's nice to see the tech giant improve its services by improving the features it constantly uses or creating new ones.
