Well, surprise, surprise. Google apparently has more to tell us after an hour-long I/O keynote and may want to beat Apple, which typically hosts a special event in September to show off new hardware, as the tech giant just shipped invitations for a “Made” event. by Google” event.
When? Well, it doesn't announce an October event very early, but rather it has a few things to show us on August 13, 2024 at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST.
The invitation promises an event that will showcase “the best of Google's artificial intelligence, Android software, and Pixel device portfolio.” This is widespread, but it could mean a significant drop in Pixel features, some new AI tricks to combat Apple Intelligence or ChatGPT, and new hardware.
Google usually releases new Pixel hardware in October. In 2023, the company introduced the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Watch 2. More recently, Google announced the mid-range Pixel 8a, which was decidedly separate from I/O 2024.
As for what else we expect from Google in 2024, it would be a second-generation foldable device, the Pixel Fold 2, the Pixel Watch 3, and the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. Of course, there's always the possibility that other devices, such as Once a Pixel Buds update or a real item tracker created by Google run on the revamped Find My Device network.
Aside from the invitation and that important phrase we shared above, Google doesn't give us much to go on. The Made by Google event on August 13 will take place at the brand's campus in Mountain View, California, and promises a “hands-on experience” once the show ends. Which means we'll get to work on whatever is announced, whether it's new hardware or a new software experience.
Either way, Techtember and Techtober could become 'Techgust' this year, and TechRadar will be there to cover it all. And who knows, maybe it's Google trying to overcome the hardware leaks, which have been abundant in the past.
