Evidence has recently emerged suggesting that Google Photos could be getting a new tool to make it easier to hide photos that feature certain faces. Android Authority has unearthed the details of this update after analyzing the latest Google Photos patch on Android.
As the post explains, the current method involves selecting a person's face within the People section and then tapping the three-dot menu. This process will be further simplified in the upcoming patch, as faces will already be highlighted. All you have to do is open an image and then open the aforementioned People section. As before, tap the three dots next to the icon where you'll select “Hide Face from Memories.”
There, you'll have two options. You can either block the other person from your account entirely or make them appear less frequently in your Memories archive. Additionally, users are offered new options within the three-dot menu. You can also edit the image tag and change it to a different one or change the cover image of a photo.
These are small changes, yes, but Android Authority says they make the process much simpler. There's no need to switch between images to hide a single person in multiple photos, nor will users have to go through the app's Settings menu to hide files in bulk. It can all be done conveniently through the People section.
Imminent release
As the tool was discovered within the files and not in the app itself, it's not available to anyone at the moment. However, the publication successfully activated the revamped process on their smartphone, so an imminent release could be right around the corner. The screenshots show a feature that looks finished, though we wouldn't be surprised if there's more to be done.
The publication believes that the patch could be rolled out in the next “weeks or months at most.” As with all leaks, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.
