Google has introduced a series of enterprise-focused security features designed to enhance protection through the power of “convergence” – the integration of physical and cybersecurity measures into one comprehensive solution.
In an announcement at its annual Google Cloud Security Summit, the company made it clear that unifying frontline security, AI, and threat intelligence capabilities will help create a more proactive and optimized approach.
The company also acknowledged that customers are partnering with other vendors, adding that collaboration will ultimately strengthen companies’ security postures.
Google Cloud bets on cybersecurity based on convergence
Among the new announcements is the introduction of Mandiant Custom Threat Hunt, a service designed to help businesses uncover past and current threat activity, which Google says will be useful for those implementing new technologies, as well as companies going through mergers or acquisitions and those that are directly or indirectly targeted by an incident such as a breach.
The Security Command Center, now available in preview, also saw significant updates, including the introduction of a tool to detect toxic combinations, where multiple security issues combined create an unacceptable risk.
Another highlight was an update to the Chrome Enterprise Premium browser, which now offers updated security features such as data watermarking, URL filtering, and enhanced security insights, all available with a new pay-as-you-go pricing model.
More broadly, Google announced a number of updates and new tools for identity and access management, network and data security, and the regulated cloud. Some of these are generally available and others will be released in preview after the event.
Sunil Potti, vice president and general manager of Google Cloud Security, commented on the company's commitment to convergence: “To truly improve security, we believe in the power of simplicity. Instead of adding new, isolated products to address specific threats, we need to reduce the number of moving parts.”
