Base The season 3 filming restart date has reportedly been delayed amid serious production issues.
According to Deadline, principal photography on the hit sci-fi show Apple TV Plus was supposed to begin again this month after a long shutdown due to the 2023 Hollywood actors and writers strikes. However, budget issues and other dilemmas production have apparently hindered Base Season 3 unfolds, and most of the cast and crew are told to return home until those issues are resolved.
Deadline's report comes a week after showrunner David S. Goyer took to Instagram to reveal that location scouting and other preparatory work was underway in the Czech city of Prague, as well as the neighboring country of Poland. We don't know if Goyer's summary footage was taken before the show's most recent production problems or was released to potentially convince fans that work was ongoing without any problems.
TechRadar has reached out to Apple for an official comment and we will update this article if we hear back.
Laying the foundation on unstable ground
According to Deadline sources, complete production of the third season of Base had already begun before last year's industrial strike in Hollywood.
Principal photography previously began in the first half of the year, and Deadline's sources corroborated a June 2023 article from The Prague Reporter that said filming began in May of last year. People with ties to the series also told Deadline that a third of the show's next installments had been shot before last year's strikes prevented further work from taking place.
The Prague Reporter's claim came despite BaseThe cast told TechRadar that they could not comment on the rumors surrounding the series' season 3 renewal. It would be another six months before Apple officially announced that Foundation would return for a third season, and considering it's one of the best shows on Apple TV Plus, it deserves another run as well.
It's unclear when principal photography will resume. Base season 3, but the latest filming postponement all but confirms that it won't be released before the end of 2024. Speaking as part of a behind-the-scenes featurette for season 2 on YouTube in October 2023, Goyer revealed that it takes two years to make a single season of the series with a lot of visual effects. If that time period includes pre-production, as well as a season's filming schedule and a lengthy post-production phase, we won't see BaseThe third season until mid or late 2025 at the earliest. In short: you and I had better settle for an agonizing wait to return to the beautifully crafted science fiction universe of the late author Isaac Asimov.
