Tubi has been a huge success in the US and Canada by offering over 20,000 free (albeit ad-supported) movies and TV shows. Now, even more audiences will have the chance to experience the service after its official launch in the UK was announced.
There's plenty to be excited about, as Tubi offers a vast library of blockbuster movies, popular TV series, and exclusive Tubi original content in North America. Best of all, there's no subscription fee. So if you're tired of paying for the best streaming services, you have a new option to consider.
The UK version of Tubi also sounds just as interesting, with a content catalogue that combines some of the best Hollywood movies with modern British classics and genres “from Bollywood and Nollywood to independent cinema,” according to a press release. So it sounds like there will be a real mix.
“Tubi has spent the last decade honing our approach to broad, free and fun streaming in North America, and we believe now is the perfect time to bring that recipe to UK audiences,” said Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi.
“We're launching the show with one of the UK's largest and most diverse content libraries, designed to delight viewers with everything from blockbusters to original stories and hidden gems. Most importantly, we're committed to listening to what resonates with UK fans and bringing them more and more of what they love,” he added.
What should you know about Tubi?
For those who don't know much about Tubi or free, ad-supported streaming, for starters, you have to endure ads not only before you start watching a movie or show, but throughout the entire process, just like you would when watching live TV.
The good news is that the ads are fairly short, so if you don't mind putting up with a few, Tubi is worth the money. It's a good option considering you won't have to pay a monthly or annual subscription to access the library.
There are some big names in its catalogue, too. Tubi has revealed that the UK service will feature more than 20,000 movies and TV episodes on-demand, including curated content from major global distributors such as Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal and Sony Pictures Entertainment, as well as a robust slate of exclusive Tubi Originals content.
Viewers can watch content through Tubi's website or app, meaning they can take their library with them wherever they go, just like other streaming services. And since you don't have to give them a dime, it's definitely worth a try.
