During its recent Checkup 2024 event, Google offered an important update on Fitbit Labs that gives us an idea of when the long-awaited Fitbit AI-powered assistant will launch.
The tech giant was coy about officially launching its Fitbit chatbot, simply stating that it will come out later. Additionally, he'll see a limited version available only to the small group of Android users currently enrolled in the program in the Fitbit app.
Why are we so excited about this? The chatbot is a fitness assistant that will answer all your burning questions about your personal Fitbit data in an informal way. It's supposed to replicate what it's like to talk to a personal trainer. Google's technology is said to provide “personalized information” about how your fitness journey is going and advise you on things you can do to improve.
Fitbit AI will also create charts and “help [people] understand [their] own data better.” For example, the chatbot's responses will show your Fitbit active zone minutes along with an average sleep score.
All of this information was hinted at during the initial AI reveal in early October, but as we get closer to launch, Google is filling in some of the gaps. There are still many murky details. We've reached out to the company to ask if there are plans to include other types of graphics in the chatbot and if it could give us an idea of when the AI will be officially implemented. We will update this story if we get new information.
If you're interested in trying out the chatbot, you can join Fitbit Labs at any time; However, you will first need a Fitbit Premium subscription.
Google search update
In addition to the chatbot, Google also talked about updating its search engine to include detailed health information about certain conditions. “High quality images and diagrams. [online] sources” will be present in the search results, allowing people to better understand the symptoms they may be feeling. The new visual assets will be rolled out globally to Google Search for mobile in the coming months. It is unknown if a similar feature will come to the desktop.
