Warning: spoilers for Emily in Paris Season 5 ahead.
Goodbye Paris, hello Rome! Emily in Paris Season 5 isn't really living up to its name at the moment with Emily (Lily Collins) starting over in the Italian capital.
Is Emily returning to Paris in Emily in Paris season 5?
Look
Indeed it does! Emily and the rest of the Agence Grateau team return home at the end of episode 4 after making the decision to close the Rome office.
Emily, Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), Luc (Bruno Gouery), and Julien (Samuel Arnold) fail to build a luxury client base in Italy, especially when Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) reveals that Muratori only partnered with Agence Grateau to try to gain greater leverage in his deal with JVMA.
Oh! With other high-end brands like Fendi and Intimissimi pulling out of their partnerships, the agency's existing client base in Paris is also starting to leave, feeling discarded and neglected while the entire team is away.
Sylvie accepts that they cannot make her Roman dreams come true and makes the decision to close the store and return home.
Are Emily and Gabriel back together?
At the end of Emily in Paris In Season 5, Emily and Gabriel aren't an item… but there's definitely a chance they will be if Season 6 gets the green light.
After Emily and Marcello break up in episode 10 (more on that below), Gabriel suddenly reappears on the scene. He's been in short supply this season while Emily lived in Rome, and after she returned to Paris, Agence Grateau client Thomas Hetherington offered her a job after Gabriel catered his party in episode 5.
Gabriel gives up his position at the restaurant to work on the brand's yacht as a seasonal chef. During this time, he only crosses paths with Emily once and stops briefly in Paris to have lunch and retrieve his knives.
In episode 10, Gabriel receives three weeks' leave in Greece while his clients return to his London office. At the same time, Sylvie texts him to tell him that Emily is now single and to “do with that information as you wish.”
After asking him for a postcard, the final scene of Emily in Paris Season 5 shows Gabriel writing on the back of one asking to meet him in Greece. But will she go?
Is Marcello gone forever?
Not necessarily, but he almost certainly won't go back to Emily. After Marcello decided to leave the Muratori family brand in episode 6, Marcello attempts to build a solo brand with the help of Emily and Nico (Paul Forman). However, he is plagued with doubts and that doesn't get any easier when mother Antonia (Anna Galiena) decides to sue her son for trademark infringement.
Emily's contacts get her a spot at Venice Fashion Week (when she can't attend Paris Fashion Week) and, despite the palace flooding, her show is a success. Antonia raises her lawsuit and Marcello can't wait to return to Solitano and properly begin his design career.
He wants Emily to move there with him, and this is where things start to fall apart. The two already had a temporary separation in episode 4 after Marcello's conversations with JVMA were revealed, but this feels different. Emily doesn't want to give up the life and work she loves for the “quiet” life that Marcello offers, so the two tearfully agree to go their separate ways after the show in Venice.
However, Agence Grateau is a partner in Marcello's individual brand, as is Nico. This means we probably haven't seen the last of Marcello on a professional level.
What's up with Mindy?
If anything, Mindy (Ashley Park) has had a much more interesting romantic life in Emily in Paris season 5. After breaking up with Nico in season 4, she begins an affair with Emily's ex, Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), behind Emily's back, which finally comes to light once they return to Paris after Julien catches them red-handed.
Emily is furious that Mindy lied to her, but that's not the only problem on Mindy's plate. Nico returns, having left JVMA to try to win her over. Soon enough, the two start dating again, and both Mindy and Alfie state that they should put the past behind them at different points during the season.
When we get to episode 10, Mindy finds herself in the biggest dilemma of all time. In Venice, Emily finds an engagement ring in Marcello's luggage and becomes convinced that he is going to propose to her. Instead, she was keeping it from Nico, who proposes to Mindy while the foursome is on a gondola ride.
She accepts, but Alfie calls her almost at the same time to try to win her back. He is convinced that the couple has something special between them and wants to try to make things work. When Mindy and Emily return to Paris, they tell Alfie the news when they run into him. Alfie is distraught and Mindy doubts she made the right decision.
Is the rest of Agence Grateau out of trouble?
In short, probably not. Sylvie has to face the biggest drama: she broke up with her Italian boyfriend Giancarlo (Raoul Bova) and filed for divorce from her husband Antoine (William Abadie).
He's also recovering from the embarrassment of reconnecting with an old friend and accidentally sleeping with his son in the process. To make matters worse, Princess Jane (Minnie Driver) followed the team from Rome, injecting much-needed money into the business at a price: she is now co-head of the agency, along with Sylvie.
Luc has romantic problems after courting a woman in Rome behind his French partner's back. The two accidentally meet at dinner and Luc rightly gets hit in the neck.
Julian has a much quieter season, and his main problem is putting up with Mindy when she temporarily moves away after her fight with Emily.
Season 6 predictions
It is worth noting that Emily in Paris Season 6 is not confirmed, but there is certainly enough narrative room to renew it.
We're on the verge of Emily and Gabriel possibly getting back together, so this would be the main story to follow. Fans will notice Bravo's absence in season 5, so there will likely be a demand for him to return to the screen as much as possible.
Now that he's invited her to join him in Greece, we could see more continental travel if Season 6 is renewed.
Our other main story to pick up on is Jane's new position at Agence Grateau. The team could almost stand her during their time in Rome, but now that they're back home, Jane's Italian connections are completely useless. Will Sylvie be able to share his leadership? Will Jane's cash injection cause more chaos than good?
Other B-plots to continue include Mindy's engagement to Nico, Marcello's solo business, and Emily's journey to finally run her own office.
