Elden Ring Players might be experiencing frame rate issues on PC due to the mouse.
That's according to developer FromSoftware, which in the latest patch notes for version 1.13 said it had discovered a potential unstable performance issue affecting PC players' FPS, due to third-party apps that could be running in the background (via PC Gamer).
“On the PC version, unstable frame rates may be caused by third-party applications controlling mouse behavior,” FromSoftware explained.
It's unclear whether the developer plans to introduce a fix in a future patch, but he did offer a workaround that may temporarily stabilize the issue.
“Disabling these third-party apps may improve performance,” it says. “The version number for this update displayed in the lower right corner of the title screen will be as follows: App Ver. 1.13. Regulation Ver. 1.13.1.”
When Elden Ring's The Shadow of the Erdtree Back in June, when the expansion launched, some players experienced similar performance issues. At the time, FromSoftware offered a similar resolution, saying, “On the PC version, the frame rate may not be stable when playing the game while a mouse control-related application is running. In that case, please try playing the game after stopping the mouse control-related application.”
However, according to the latest patch notes, it seems the issue has persisted for over a month. In response to the potential fix, one user said: “Your game runs poorly on all devices from consoles to ultra-high-end PCs. And you don't have Ultrawide or DLSS/FSR/XESS support. Things that modders implemented.”
Patch 1.13 went live on all platforms earlier this week, and its main focus was to introduce much-needed balance fixes to weapons, spells, and summons. While most Spirit Ashes saw significant nerfs across the board, the update also changed the default selection that appears when attempting to summon Torrent after the Spectral Steed has died, making things less overwhelming during boss fights.
