BioWare has confirmed that two major features from previous games dragon age Games have been removed in Dragon Age: The Guardian of the Veil.
In his latest interview with Edge Magazine (transcribed by Tumblr user Felassan), The Guardian of the VeilDirector Corinne Busche and creative director John Epler talked about the game's combat system and how it differs from… dragon age entries that came before, as well as how this ties into the overall world of Thedas that you can explore.
“Responsiveness was our main goal with this base layer of the combat system,” Busche said. “We wanted you to feel like you existed in this space, as you traversed these really designed and manipulated worlds. That you were on the ground and in control of every action, every block, every dodge.”
This is where the developers revealed that for the upcoming game, the team decided to ditch the tactical camera, a feature that previously allowed the player to pause the game during combat and make decisions for their party.
“We actually had a mandate on Inquisition“The idea was 'don't fight inside,'” Epler said. “The amount of extra work that went into getting that tactical camera to work in a lot of those indoor environments was quite a challenge.”
BioWare executives also confirmed that this time around, players will not be able to control their companions.
“From an experiential standpoint, we wanted you to feel like you're Rook: you're in this world, really focused on your actions,” Busche said. “We wanted the companions to feel like, as fully realized characters, they're in control of their actions.” his They make their own decisions. You, as the leader of this crew, can influence them, direct them, and give them orders, but they are their own people.”
Busche went on to say that it's understandable why the inability to control your teammates might seem like something removed, but explained that: “In our testing and validation with players, what we're finding is that they're more engaged than ever.”
The director added that The Guardian of the Veil It's a “game with a lot more actions per minute” and “more technically demanding on the player,” so when the team tried to also allow the ability to control teammates, they found that it “didn't really contribute to the experience.”
“In fact, in some ways it was detrimental, given the demanding nature of just controlling your character,” Busche said.
Dragon Age: The Guardian of the Veil It doesn't have a release date yet, but BioWare has confirmed it will share one this month alongside a roadmap. However, we can expect the game to launch in “fall 2024” for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
