Gearbox Software narrative director Sam Winkler has reiterated to fans that he cannot canonize his theories in the borderlands series and asked them to stop sending them to him with that intention.
In a Twitter/X post on Jan. 6, Winkler, who worked as a writer on Borderlands 3 and senior writer at Little Tina’s Wonderland, wrote: “PSA: Don’t send me your borderlands theories or story ideas. Oh really. I won’t read them. I can’t incorporate your headcanon (even if I like it) or ‘fix’ the pacing of a story (even if I didn’t like it).
“It will also end a conversation with me very quickly,” he continued. “I’m *happy* to talk about writing as a craft and a career; It is largely why I have my [direct messages] open, but if you start with your advice about what you think I or anyone else should do with borderlands“You’re wasting the opportunity.”
Former Destiny 2 Community manager Liana Ruppert cited the thread and aggregate: “No, really, don’t do this. She had countless [conversations] with the narrative team at Bungo [sic] in this. “It’s especially awkward (and shady) if someone suggests something that was already planned and then there’s a sense of outside ownership even though that beat was already in progress.”
Returning to Winkler, and despite his request to fans to stop sending him things “with the intention of canonizing them or affecting my work,” he added that, first of all, he loves that people have these ideas and theories. “God knows I had mine when [was] “only a fan outside of Gearbox,” he said.
It’s been a while since we’ve had a new main series. borderlands game, since Borderlands 3 was released in 2019. This year, however, fans can expect the release of the borderlands movie, which is set to release on August 9.
