Do you love Netflix's One Day? Stream These 5 Highly Rated Romantic Comedies This Valentine's Day

One dayadaptation of David Nicholls' best-selling novel, is bringing serious Valentine's Day vibes to Netflix charts this week, in complete contrast to the bestseller, which stars Sofia Vergara in the unromantic Griselda. One day It's at number three, just below The Turistranking in the top three in its first week of broadcast with 5.3 million views and 35,200,000 viewing hours.

Although One day was set over the course of a different day, St. Swithin's Day on July 15, it's a great Valentine's watch. It is the story of a relationship in which the odds are against our protagonists, but where you will be encouraging them to get together. Empire magazine said that “One day has found gold in its leading duo, whose chemistry is timeless and captivating.” The show is “an extraordinary display of talent.”

That said, 14 episodes is a lot, so if you're looking for alternative viewing this Valentine's Day, we've got some shorter but no less romantic picks. Here are five romantic comedies we think you'll love.

Bright Side Playbook

I admit, the tone doesn't sound too promising: our romantic lead has just left a mental institution, lives with his parents and is trying to rebuild bridges with his ex-wife. It's not chocolates, strawberries and champagne. But! That's why this romantic comedy will surprise and delight you. It's “very funny,” says The Guardian. It's “perched on the razor's edge between comedy and psychological drama” and the two leads, played by Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, are wonderful.

Entergalactic

This genre-busting Netflix movie doesn't really have much of a plot and isn't exactly traditional filmmaking. It's not a character study and it's not really an action movie either. According to RogerEbert.com, this animated show is more of a collection of vibes and it's a collection that somehow works very well. Kid Cudi and Jessica Williams are our rom-com leads in this experimental and wildly entertaining epic that's a multi-sensory musical of sorts and, as far as I know, the only rom-com that's ever been compared to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. As the Ebert.com review put it: “As a work of art, Entergalactic It is evocative, beautiful and intelligent. I imagine it being played at parties for decades to come. “Just don't approach it like a TV show.”

Alex Strangelove

Queer romantic comedies are rare. Good queer romantic comedies, even rarer. So hooray for Alex Stranglove, in which high school friends Alex and Claire begin dating and make plans to have sex before the arrival of an extremely attractive boy, Elliott, causes Alex to begin to wonder if he is really that straight and, if It's not, what does that mean? What does it mean to Claire? He's not perfect (The Guardian rightly says he's too conservative in places), but his heart is in the right place and there are some really beautiful moments, as well as some typically teenage gross-out humour. And perhaps that's what makes this movie notable: it's, first and foremost, a teen movie made with mass appeal.

Vagrants

Do not confuse with Vagabonds!which is a documentary about the pop kids of the 80s, Vagrants is a romantic comedy in which Callum Turner and Grace Van Patten independently agree to handle a mysterious bag exchange. None of the strangers know what's in the case, and when they accidentally lose it, they have to work together to try to get it back. Will strangers who seem to have nothing in common but a suitcase find something else? You can probably guess. As RogerEbert.com says, it has a “The The Earth“Level Nostalgia” for movies set in New York from the '70s that will either love you or annoy you immensely, but if you're in the old camp you'll enjoy a sweet, innocent romantic comedy of the kind they really don't get often. to do more.

May December

According to Vulture, Todd Haynes' 2023 film is “a trap movie… It makes you feel one thing and then makes you wonder if you should feel something completely different. Alfred Hitchcock used to talk about being able to play the audience like a piano, playing each key to elicit a specific emotional response; Haynes plays us like an accordion.

The film is set in Savannah, Georgia, where Natalie Portman visits television star Julianne Moore and her husband, Charles Melton. Portman's character, Elizabeth, will play Moore in the film of her life, and her journey to discover everything about that life means delving into a torrid old issue that won't necessarily show anyone in a good light. It's part dark comedy, part romantic comedy, part drama about long-buried secrets… reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, but given that many have said the film can also be disturbing and disconcerting, it may not be Ideal if you and your loved one are still in the early stages of your relationship to impress each other – not everyone will love this one.
