A new report from Zoom has revealed that in-person meetings are the most unpopular and least productive method of collaboration, with many preferring instant messaging.
More than a third of leaders waste more than an hour per day resolve problems caused by poor teamwork, which could cost businesses up to £12,000 per manager per year.
Perhaps the least surprising news in the report is the claim that teams using more than 10 apps are twice as likely to spend an hour or more solving collaboration problems than those using fewer than five apps.
Generational differences
All generations except baby boomers prefer non-face-to-face collaboration, such as project management software or instant messaging. However, in-person sessions still top the list for baby boomers. Gen Z has the heaviest follow-up burden, spending more than an hour a day on project statuses.
To increase efficiency, some are turning to AI: 67% use the technology at least a few times a week, and 74% of leaders find it makes them more productive. Asynchronous collaboration methods, such as shared documents, are preferred by 46% of AI users, versus 20% of non-AI users.
Recent studies have He praised AI as a productivity enhancerWorkday estimates that the UK’s GDP could be improved by £119 billion. The study concluded that 2.9 hours a day could be saved by using AI, equivalent to 92 working days a year.
However, nearly 93% of UK employees and leaders share concerns about trust in AI: 38% need more time to train their teams, 32% feel there is a lack of investment, and 38% have fears about privacy, security or bias.
