Here's one you might not have expected: if Wordle is no longer interesting enough for you in plain old 2D, you can now bring it to VR with the dedicated Meta Quest 3 Wordle app (also playable on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro).
It's completely free to download and you can try it out right now. We've tried it out ourselves (we even used the new app to solve Wordle today) and, in a word, the experience is “good.”
The app runs smoothly, though there's nothing special about this VR experience that justifies the step up to 3D: it's just Wordle floating in a window in the void.
What's more annoying is that there is currently no way to link this to your account to keep your stats in sync between the web and VR versions. So if you translate Wordle to VR, you will lose your scorestreak.
Maybe some updates will come to the app in the future that will expand its reach, but for now it's just one of those free VR oddities that isn't all that exciting, because it's neither amazing nor horrible.
A puzzling addition
Instead of Wordle, there are a couple of alternative (though not free) puzzle games I would recommend in VR.
The Last Clockwinder is, without a doubt, my favorite VR puzzle game, especially because its challenges require the perfect combination of using your brain to find a solution and the skill to make that solution come to life. Its story can be solved without too much difficulty, but the real fun comes from finding the best ways to grow and process fruit with as few robots as possible.
Then there's the I Expect You To Die series, a trilogy (so far) of fun James Bond-inspired VR escape rooms. Each entry is a delight and definitely worth picking up, especially if you can get them together during a sale.
I also recently tried The Exit 8 VR, a light-hearted spot-the-difference horror VR game that's actually pretty difficult. It's a little disconcerting at times, but there are no unavoidable jump scares, so even if you're not a huge horror fan, this is a game worth checking out.
