It's been a year since Bing Chat received its generative AI boost, and we've seen a lot change since it included a rebrand to Copilot. To celebrate the first anniversary, Microsoft decided to redesign the Copilot home page and introduce a new editing feature.
The company claims that when you visit the AI engine's desktop website, you “will see… a cleaner, sleeker look.” In the middle of the page is a rotating carousel of example prompts accompanied by an image. Its purpose, according to Microsoft, is to give you an idea of what Copilot is capable of; to get those creative juices flowing. It is certainly more attractive than the previous version. The old page had three sample text messages side by side with no indication that it could create images.
Copilot on mobile devices is receiving an identical update. The app has the same sample directions carousel with an image above to give you some ideas. You also have the option to toggle GPT-4 for better results. When activated, the software's blue accents turn purple.
Adjustment instructions
As for the feature mentioned above, it is called Designer. It allows you to make adjustments to the generated content, such as highlighting certain aspects, blurring the background, or adding a unique filter. As an example, let's take Copilot's suggestion to create an image of an animal wearing a football helmet. When you move the cursor over the image, a bold white line appears around an object. Clicking on it highlights the portion.
A couple of options appear at the bottom of the window. We chose to tell Copilot to highlight the colors. After a few seconds, the finished product appears. You can then undo the effect or keep it. For filters, you have eight to choose from. Pixel art, block printing, and clay animation are some of the selections. Like previous editions, applying a filter takes a few seconds.
Designer is free for everyone to try. However, subscribers of Pro Copilot You will be given additional tools. They can resize the generated content and regenerate images in square or landscape orientation. Microsoft says it will eventually implement a “GPT Designer” for Copilot. The company calls it a kind of canvas where people can “visualize [their] ideas.” If we had to guess, it could be a publicly available GPT model that you can use to create editing tools. OpenAI offers a similar service with its online store. We've reached out to Microsoft for more details. This story will be updated later.
