Naturally, resellers have been taking advantage of this opportunity by selling “pre-orders” at a higher price than they initially paid; in other words, bursting. Retail price is $479 and most of these listings on eBay are $900 or more. Although none of them have sold as of this writing, one buyer recently purchased a chip for $564.
Even we at TechRadar can confirm how difficult it has been, as we have yet to be able to get one from a standard retailer. You can still check out online retailers like Amazon, Neweggand Photo B&Hbut of course, for now they are all sold out. Even AMD's official online store is out of stock despite the limit of one per customer.
There is one place where you can get the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and it is at Micro Center. However, you'll have to go to their physical store to get one right now.
There is another positive side to this and that is that the resellers will not have the last laugh. As more stock comes back in waves, demand will eventually decline enough that your upgraded listings become worthless.
This might take a few more months to happen, so keep checking with official retailers until you can get your hands on one too. Why is the Ryzen 7 9800X3D so sought after?
It's a bit surprising that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is already attracting a lot of attention, as rumors and reports have been positive in terms of performance. According to a reportIt will have eight Zen 5 cores with a base clock speed of 4.70 GHz, which can be boosted up to 5.20 GHz, 96 MB of 3D V-Cache and can have an 8% performance increase over the gaming processor of AMD's current high-end.
In terms of overclocking, professionals have been pushing the Processor at the limit and discover that it can reach up to almost 7 GHz in clock speeds. A user ran Counter-Strike 2 at 1080p (maximum graphics settings) and achieved 1262.9 frames per second (fps). There was another test with Valorant and the CPU averaged close to 1100 fps at 1080p resolution (maximum settings), sometimes reaching over 1500 fps.
It's clear how great this processor is and why so many resellers saw a golden opportunity to take advantage of it. But with any major tech release, with enough patience and anyone who wants it will be able to buy it legitimately in a matter of months, if not sooner.
