Those interested in getting their hands on the next incarnation of macOS will be pleased to know that Sequoia is apparently almost upon us.
We normally expect a new macOS to appear anytime between September and November, but MacRumors claims it will be earlier in that period.
Sources have told the website that macOS 15 will launch in mid-September (add your own skepticism, as always), meaning we'll be seeing Sequoia in just a few weeks.
That theory is backed up by a side note here, namely that iOS 18 is widely expected to launch in mid-September (as every version of the mobile OS has been, for a long time), and Apple wants to introduce macOS Sequoia at the same time because of their shared features.
Of course, we're talking about the iPhone's great screen mirroring functionality for macOS 15, and given that, it makes sense that both new operating systems would debut simultaneously, with that capability in full swing, showcasing these new cross-platform powers.
The most likely date for this double reveal is, by the way, September 10, according to previous Apple revelations.
Analysis: Lining up the pieces
Earlier this week we learned that the latest iOS 18 beta will be the last, and if MacRumors is right in its claim, macOS Sequoia must also be in its final stages of testing. Mind you, we haven’t heard any rumors to that effect anywhere else (yet), and besides, does it really seem like macOS 15 is close to launching?
We're not sure, but if this actually happens as claimed, we'll know soon enough. To be fair to MacRumors, it certainly makes sense in terms of Apple lining up the OS puzzle pieces for iPhone screen mirroring.
Of course, there's another important piece of the puzzle, and it's not coming with either the initial release of iOS 18 or macOS 15: Apple Intelligence.
These AI features are currently being tested in a standalone beta version of macOS (15.1, for developers) and are expected to arrive in a later update, likely in October, according to MacRumors’ theory. And it’s equally likely that Apple Intelligence will arrive alongside new M4 MacBook Pro models (and other Macs, too), no doubt with an illustration of how well the M4 SoC executes AI capabilities.
