- Certain electronic devices are now exempt from certain rates
- Telephones, laptops and processors get a respite, which includes China
- It is still not clear what will happen next with the price of electronics
There is a new turn in the US Tariff War. UU.: Telephones, computers, semiconductors and several other electronic are now exempt from punishing import rates, which have fired up to 145% for China and generally now they are 10% as a baseline for other countries.
Associated Press and others reported the news, and although it is still early to say what the total impact will be, the pressure on companies that mainly manufacture their devices outside the United States, including Apple, Dell, Nvidia and Samsung will relieve.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, presented a series of tariffs for imported goods to the United States at the beginning of the month, and the markets have been in chaos since then. Earlier this week, many of those tariff walks above the baseline of 10% were arrested, but not for China, which raised their own rates.
This new exclusion policy covers China and mentions smartphones, laptops, hard drives, computer processors, memory chips and machines used to make semiconductors. Most of the companies that deal with electronics will breathe a relief sigh, although some categories of devices are not covered, including video game consoles.
What happens later?
It has been difficult to predict the movements that the United States government has done with respect to tariffs in recent days, and that has not changed. This last movement should mean that device prices are accommodated for consumers, but it is impossible to be sure.
Bloomberg reports that the new exclusion policy could be a precursor to a completely separated rate specifically focused on electronics. For now, the world is waiting to see how the 90 -day pause in many of Trump's rates develops.
As an American company that brings together almost all its products abroad, even in China, Apple has been at the center of attention during all this tariff uncertainty: there have even been suggestions of Apple factories in the US. UU. And the reports of purchase of iPhone panic before the possible price increases.
Apple is one of the companies that seems to benefit the most, although the movement may not be enough to open Nintendo Switch 2 early orders in the United States, which have been delayed. Consoles such as Switch 2 are not mentioned in new exemptions, although the previous 90 -day pause should mean that more stocks can be transferred to the United States.
