Apple is apparently investigating a 'ghost touches' bug in the Apple Watch 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, which (as the name suggests) means that taps and swipes are recorded even when you don't touch the screen.
According to a memo sent to Apple Authorized Service Providers and seen by MacRumors, Apple is aware of the issue and is actively investigating it. If that's the case and Apple really notices it, the problem must be quite widespread.
That said, we can't find many reports online of people who have been experiencing this specific problem. The mentions we have discovered are not particularly recent, although of course not everyone who finds a bug on their Apple device posts about it on the Internet.
“Some customers may report that their Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 is experiencing false touches on their screen,” the memo says, so it doesn't appear this is currently affecting older versions of the wearable device.
Unwanted actions
These ghost touches can initiate phone calls and prevent a smartwatch passcode from being entered, according to the memo, so if you've been experiencing these issues on your own Apple Watch, then you're not alone.
It's unclear at this time what's causing the issue or when Apple might roll out a fix (if it can be fixed via a software update). It is also unclear how many users have reported the error.
If your Apple Watch 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 exhibits this type of behavior, there is currently no workaround that's guaranteed to work for everyone, although Apple's memo suggests force restarting an affected watch and keeping its software up to date. can help to some extent.
The comments below the MacRumors article indicate that a restart or hard reset could also help fix the problem, at least for a while. If we hear anything more official from Apple, we'll of course let you know.
