Black Kite Games has announced that Altar Acolyte will be released on PC via Steam on March 25, 2024.
Altar Acolyte is a single-player roguelike deck builder inspired by Magic: The Gathering and shadow of the colossuswith over 100 cards and randomly generated challenging floors to play while you build your deck.
In this dark fantasy card game, you will hunt wastelands in search of colossal 'Beasts' that will evolve as you fight them. This means that players will need to think carefully about their actions and combine cards to create the perfect synergy to attack. You will also need to manage your mana pool while summoning powerful creatures while defeating Beasts efficiently.
“Hurry them before they reach their potential, or bring in your own threats to match their strength,” explains Black Kite Games. “Feel the tension of fighting a giant and the thrill of triumphing against all odds in every match!”
Additionally, as you fight a Beast, its rage will increase until it unlocks new abilities to use against you. For example, beating the Gilded Grifter in its cup game will give you an advantage, while feeding The Yearning Woods' Consume ability will fill its health bar and stomach until it explodes.
The latest trailer offers a look at how these abilities and card synergies work and also provides a look at the Patron system. After defeating a Beast, players will be able to offer their body to the chosen Patron, who will carve a new gift for the player.
El Patrón can also offer more in terms of combat forms. For example, during the start of a new area, they will bless the player with a gift of their choice, drastically altering the way they play.
While the Crumbling Monument's Skyscraper Sword will make your taller creatures bigger, the Mini Jelly will attack enemies when you cast spells, but gifts can also have consequences, so players should be careful with their choices.
Altar Acolyte It's available to wishlist on Steam right now, and there's also a playable demo to try out before the game's release.
