- Oukitel will launch WP200 Pro in the first quarter of 2025
- The device has a single earpiece with a color LCD screen, useful for translating
- It comes with a whopping 1TB of storage and 24GB of RAM, the most I've seen in a rugged phone.
We've reviewed several rugged devices from Chinese manufacturer Oukitel in the past and have always been impressed with what they offer, especially for the price.
The company now plans to unveil three new 5G rugged smartphones at CES 2025, and it's fair to say that they all have something interesting that sets them apart from the competition. The WP100 Titan features a massive 33 Ah battery, a camping light and a DLP projector, while the WP200 Pro and WP300 Pro have a built-in recess on the back, into which a module can be placed.
For the Oukitel WP200, that module is a single, detachable earpiece that you can pop out and put in your ear to listen to music or podcasts, take calls, and listen to translations. It saves you from having to carry a separate pair of Bluetooth headphones with you, and as long as you remember to put them back in, you shouldn't lose them.
1 TB of storage
The headset has a customizable color LCD screen, so when you're not wearing it in your ear you can look at the back of your phone and see the time and other details. It looks like a smartwatch screen, so it's probably no surprise that it can function as one. Put it on the separate bracelet and you can use it as a watch and benefit from its sports modes and health monitoring functions.
The phone itself looks attractive, with a choice of textured finishes in blue and green. It features a 6.7-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display and is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 SoC, backed by an impressive 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, impressive for any smartphone and virtually unheard of in a rugged one. The main camera is a 108MP model that promises sharp and detailed images.
Additional details on the Oukitel WP200 Pro (and WP300 Pro) are still scarce, although the WP200 Pro is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2025. Crucial information will no doubt be revealed, including pricing and global availability, once CES starts.
While many rugged phones are designed primarily for users working in demanding environments, such as construction sites or outdoor industries, the WP200 Pro is likely to equally appeal to adventure seekers looking for a durable and versatile device for their explorations.
