We should see the iPhone 16 break cover in about a month, and leaks are starting to pile up for Apple's 2024 flagship phone, including new information about the battery capacities of the Pro and Pro Max models.
According to well-known tipster Instant Digital (via MacRumors), the iPhone 16 Pro will come with a 3,577mAh capacity battery, while the battery inside the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 4,676mAh capacity.
To put those numbers into context, the iPhone 15 Pro has a 3,274mAh battery capacity, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 4,422mAh capacity. Both models appear to have larger batteries this year, but the jump is bigger on the Pro model.
We'd heard that same 4,676mAh capacity for the iPhone 16 Pro Max in a previous leak, though an earlier rumor had put the iPhone 16 Pro's capacity at 3,355mAh, so this latest source suggests the size increase will be larger.
Better battery life?
Of course, it's entirely possible that battery capacities have changed as Apple has been developing the phones and refining their designs, which could explain why some of the rumors we've been seeing so far list different numbers.
It’s also hard to say how these larger battery capacities will affect battery life. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to have larger displays this year, up to 6.3 and 6.9 inches respectively, which could affect the estimates.
As our iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max reviews will tell you, the current models can run for about a day (or a bit more) with general use. It looks like the new editions will still need to be charged overnight most of the time.
Apple hasn't announced a September launch event yet, but that's the month it usually unveils its new iPhones. At the same event we should also be introduced to the Apple Watch 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 3.
