Several posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) have collectively revealed almost everything about the DJI Neo.
Prominent leakers Quadro_News, MysteryLupin, and Jasper Ellens have not only shared spec sheets but also product images of the device and its numerous accessories. The DJI Neo is a tiny, ultra-portable machine that measures just 130 x 157 x 48.5 mm and weighs a mere 135 grams, according to the leak.
To put that into perspective, the iPhone 15 weighs 171 grams. So, we have a drone that could be lighter than a smartphone. However, because it's so small, it doesn't boast the most impressive specs.
DJI has rated its upcoming model with a maximum flight time of around 18 minutes, or 17 minutes if the propeller guards are in place. However, images within the leak show that the short flight time can be compensated for with spare 1435mAh batteries.
The company claims that each power supply “allows the drone to perform at least 20 palm-powered takeoffs and landings.” Plus, you can purchase a two-way charging hub to charge those batteries.
The leaked spec sheets warn that “results may vary depending on environment, actual usage, and firmware version.” 18 minutes is just an approximation based on internal testing.
Camera specifications
On the front of the drone there is said to be a 1/2-inch camera with a 12MP lens and a 117.6-degree field of view. It should be able to record video in up to 4K resolution at 30 FPS, but it can also record at 60 FPS, just with a lower image quality than Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels).
Storage space is set at 22GB maximum and there is no apparent way to expand it, so users planning to shoot HD video will need to be careful about how much data they record. Otherwise, they will quickly use up all available space.
Additionally, the spec sheet reveals seven individual flight modes, all of which are present in currently available drones.
Now the design of this #Neo battery (1435mAh) really reminds me of the #DJISPARK. You just place them underneath the drone and easily swap them out to keep flying. It seems like you have to remove the battery to access the micro-sd slot, because I can't find one. pic.twitter.com/YLDz4bbOgHAugust 13, 2024
First off, you have Normal, Cinema, Sports, and Manual modes. To give you an idea of what these do, Cinema mode ensures the aircraft remains stable while recording video, while Sports mode makes it “more responsive to control stick movements.”
The sheet also mentions three QuickShot functions, such as Rocket, which allows the drone to quickly ascend while the camera is pointing downward.
Other notable features include a maximum flight distance of seven kilometers, an internal GPS, and support for a first-person view mode. To use the drone's FPV function, you'll need a couple of accessories such as the DJI Goggles 3 and the DJI RC-N3 remote controller.
Availability
That’s pretty much all the pertinent information we could glean from the leak. The photos show the drone from different angles, so if you’re interested, they’re still available online at the time of writing. Pricing for the DJI Neo is unknown, but additional propeller guards are said to cost $15 each.
Jasper Ellens claims the drone will be released on August 20. Several YouTubers are apparently already getting their hands on the device and are reviewing it, so we probably won't have to wait too long to find out more.
