Four games that were previously released as Xbox exclusive titles have been confirmed to be on their way to other platforms, although it hasn't been explicitly confirmed which ones they are.
The news was revealed during the last Official Xbox Podcast episode today (February 15), in which Microsoft Gaming Head Phil Spencer, Xbox President Sarah Bond, and Xbox Game Studios Head Matt Booty gave an update on the future of the business. This came after weeks of rumors about several Xbox games being considered for PlayStation and nintendo switch releases.
“So we made the decision to bring four games to the other consoles, just four games, without a change in our kind of fundamental exclusive strategy,” Spencer said. “We are making these decisions for some specific reasons. In reality, we make every decision with the long-term health of Xbox in mind. And the long-term health of Xbox means a growing platform, making our games work, building the best platform for creators, and reaching as many players as we can.
“We are always looking to learn as a leadership team and grow, and we think this is an interesting time for us to use what some of the other platforms have now to help grow our franchises. So let's do that.”
Spencer didn't name the four games in question, but confirmed that the teams behind them have “announced plans that aren't too far away.” He also clarified that the lineup does not include star field either Indiana Jones and the Great Circle – two games that were previously rumored to be considered for a cross-platform release.
Next, Spencer said that Xbox had looked at games that are “over a year old” and that a couple of them are “community-driven games, new games, sort of early iterations of a franchise that has peaked.” potential, let's say.” , on Xbox and PC.”
Two of the other games, he said, are “smaller games that should never have been created as exclusive platforms, and all the fanfare that comes with it.” These games coming to other platforms will “drive more commercial value” and allow the company to “maybe invest in future iterations of those, meaning sequels to those, or just other games like that in our portfolio.”
Spencer explained: “When we don't hurt Xbox and we can grow our business using what other platforms have to help us with that, we will do it.”
He also added that there is “no promise” that other exclusives will become cross-platform beyond the four games that have been planned, and asked players not to “take it as a sign that everything is yet to come, it's not.” So”.
