Looking at the full list of new additions, we can expect our roundup of the best Netflix series to be much more extensive next month. Some of these terrifyingly good series had already arrived on Max in August 2023, so it's great to see them licensed to other platforms.
But with 13 new shows coming to the top streaming service, you might be wondering where to start. Here are three shows in particular that not only have the highest scores on Rotten Tomatoes among new releases, but are definitely on my favorites list.
Stay up all night with Louis, Lestat, and these 13 AMC series, coming to Netflix in the US on August 19. Kevin can fuck himself

With the luminous Annie Murphy of Schitt's Creek fame, Kevin can fuck himself is a dark comedy that has a lot of fun and radically changes the usual sitcom clichés. While the first season was a bit uneven, the second season has 100% on the Tomatometer.
“There has never been a series on television like… Kevin can fuck himself“…one of the best new shows of 2021,” writes Concrete Playground. The Independent says that “the execution doesn't always live up to the ambition, but at its best Kevin can fuck himself “It walks a brilliantly uncomfortable line between comedy and drama. We'll forgive almost anything just to get a laugh.”
“It may be as subtle as a blow to the skull,” says The New York Times, “but it is an inventive metacriticism of television.” And according to News.com.au “Kevin can fuck himself “It doesn't just reference sitcom tropes, it weaponizes them.”
Anne Rice's interview with the vampire

It's 2022 and Louis de Pointe du Lac, a vampire, is living in Dubai and telling his life story to a journalist. And what a story it is, full of bitten necks and heaving bosoms, and much closer to the source material than the film. It's “a beautifully shot and well-chosen mix of horror, humor and romance, with bodices and throats torn in equal measure,” says the Times-Picayune.
“Featuring a quartet of spectacular performances, this is Rice’s bloody, beautiful story told on screen again,” Empire says. “Now she finally has the chance to wear her queer heart (and guts, blood, and assorted viscera) proudly.” The Horror Queers Podcast agrees: “Exquisitely produced and featuring a trio of great performances from Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, and Bailey Bass, the series deftly explores sex, violence, race, class, and queerness in nuanced and entertaining ways.”

Dark winds Currently sitting at 100% approval on Rotten Tomatoes, it follows tribal police Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn, who finds himself beset by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes on the Navajo Nation in the early 1970s, and has received rave reviews.
The Guardian says, “It's an intricate, atmospheric mystery that still feels snappy enough to be tackled in a marathon or two,” while IGN Movies says, “As a period piece and cultural primer for an unabashedly Native American story told through a Native American lens, Dark Winds successfully gives audiences a different perspective and backdrop for a crime drama.”
It has also been described as “moving, beautifully shot and driven by superb performances.”Dark winds “It's a very good show and it's also very important,” he added.
