Zang Toi's fall 2024 collection was a personal tribute to his late brother, drawing inspiration from the duo's numerous trips to Paris.
“He was the closest friend I had,” Toi said. “He has been with me many times in Paris and his favorite neighborhood was Saint-Germain-des-Prés. He loves to shop, so when he became seriously ill I decided to make a collection of this neighborhood. He left us several months ago, so this is for me the most personal show in 30 years of shows. All I want to do today is put on the most beautiful show in his honor.”
Toi interpreted the Parisian inspiration in a bold way with the use of heavy outerwear, multiple textures, brocades and a changing color palette of black, red and pink. Roses were an important motif and appeared as prints and three-dimensional elements fixed in the looks. A standout piece was a long red dress with a low back adorned with 3D roses.
The collection stayed true to Toi's signature women's eveningwear, offering tried-and-true silhouettes that are sure to impress its clientele.
Toi included several masculine looks, tapping into the edgier aesthetic for styles like a black suede jacket paired with black leather pants under a kitschy pink shearling coat.
Toi's lineup stayed true to the design codes he established in the more than 30 years of his label and showed a more avant-garde side.
