Yves Tumor is the multiform muse of the Acne Studios menswear collection

Acne Studios is having a denim moment, courtesy of its viral Kylie Jenner campaign, and creative director Jonny Johansson intended to keep that momentum going with his fall menswear collection.

The muse he chose for his lookbook is not a world-famous reality TV star, but the kind of unconventional creativity the designer loves to discover. Yves Tumor, a musician whose genre defies categorization, proved to fit perfectly into this season's haphazard aesthetic.

“It's kind of a balance between high and middle, high and low, terrifyingly sweet. I don't know, I'm very excited about Yves Tumor as a human being,” Johansson said enthusiastically.

Cyber biker, psychedelic punk or '90s raver: Tumor channeled them effortlessly in looks that contrasted body and oversized proportions.

As usual, the denim pieces looked like they had been put through the wringer, but they weren't always what they seemed. The baggy, worn jeans with metal key chains hanging from them turned out to be cotton pants printed with trompe-l'oeil motifs. The same goes for flared jeans with studded belts or hand-painted with cute bows.

“It looks futuristic and low-tech at the same time,” Johansson said of the technique. “You have this piece of white canvas and then you can just sit in front of a computer, make your collage and print it out.”

There was a trippy quality to the way she styled pieces like crop tops, shearling outerwear, long boots, or a furry camouflage jumpsuit. Scene-stealers will go for the full look, but ordinary mortals might want to microdose.
