The United Kingdom Business Minister Jonathan Reynolds will meet with the United States Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, and United States Commerce Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington on Tuesday to advance discussions on a bilateral trade agreement, the British embassy said.

Reynolds will discuss the deepest ties in the United Kingdom to benefit industry, businesses and consumers, based on discussions launched for the first time by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and British prime minister Keir Starmer during an Oval office meeting last month, he said.

“The United Kingdom and the United States share a fair and balanced relationship, one that has benefited both parties for many decades,” Reynolds said in a statement, calling for their visit the last step in the “pragmatic and positive commitment of the United Kingdom with the new administration to agree on a broader economic agreement in both interests.”

Great Britain, unlike the European Union, did not retaliate immediately after Trump's 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports entered into force on March 12, hoping to negotiate a commercial agreement and avoid a broader round of reciprocal tariffs that Trump says he will announce on April 2.

Trump said last month that the two countries could reach a bilateral trade agreement that would avoid tasks.

Great Britain and the United States participated in five rounds of commercial negotiations towards such an agreement during Trump's first mandate, but failed to reach an agreement before leaving office. The work was filed by his successor, former President Joe Biden.

Great Britain Ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson said that the two allies hoped to establish a “complete spectrum technological association” based on the critical collaboration of the United States-Reinian in nuclear technologies during World War II and the joint work that Internet develops.

In a comment published on Monday in the Hill newspaper, Mandelson stressed the importance of continuous collaboration, now in artificial intelligence, given today's intense rivalries with adversaries in that sector.

It mapped possible associations in biotechnologies, including genomics, protein and engineering design, as well as joint work in advanced data centers, the first advanced quantum computer and nuclear technology.

“The United States and the United Kingdom are natural allies to work together to offer generational advances,” he said. “The United States and Great Britain can achieve more together than they can do.”

The United States is the largest commercial partner in Great Britain, with more than $ 1.5 billion invested in the economies of others in key sectors, including financial services, energy and technology.
