The Sarabande Foundation, the organization established by Lee Alexander McQueen, is ready to bring its 'What now?' New York City Return event this May.
That will take place on Tuesday, May 6 at the Standard, East Village, what now? It serves as a bridge between education and the professional world, equipping attendees with the tools and ideas of the industry necessary to launch successful careers.
The free event welcomes students, recent graduates and self -taught creatives, providing them with individual tutoring, portfolio reviews and a digital 'help package after the event full of guidance to navigate the creative industries.
“There is a great emptiness between the security of the university and the reality of the work world. Particularly in fashion, preconception and the wrong idea is that by graduating the work of their dreams,” said Trino Verkade, director of Sarabande.
“The reality is quite different. But excitingly, on the other hand, the industry is so diverse and rich in need. There are numerous alternative models to navigate the industry that is not” I graduated from the fashion design and configured my own label. “What? Help people to identify that their skill set is much broader than their degree.”
Last year's event attracted hundreds of anxious graduates who aligned around the block to meet 90 industry professionals of 23 global renowned brands, including Christian Dior Couture, Fendi, Hermès, Khaite, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne, Tiffany & Coh., And Art & Commercere.
“I know what I am looking for in a graduate, and all the brands that participate in what they now know what they want. This event provides an incredible opportunity so that our next generation of creatives has direct access to the leaders of the industry of an exceptional group of brands,” added Francesca Amfiterf, president of the Americans of Sarabande and artist director of Jeweery and Jewely, Louis Vuitton.
“Our goal for this event is to advise and educate students on how to give their best foot in the trajectory of their career. Our industry is global, and events like this show not only what is possible for them, but how to prosper.”
