The French brand Hermès expands with a new leather workshop in Normandía

To support the success of his leather articles and collections of Sadler, Hermès is consolidating her artisanal model, a source of quality, durability, creativity and innovation, with the implementation of a workshop in a new territory for the manufacture of her leather items. With the opening of the tenth center by 2028, the house continues to expand its production capacity. Ultimately, 260 artisans will apply their excellence and knowledge in this future workshop near Caen, located in Colombelles in the department of French Calvados.

This new project adds to the other three leather workshop sites currently under development in L'I isle-D'Espagnac (Charente), Loupes (Gironde) and Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes).

The Chamber will recruit its artisans with the support of the École Hermès des Savoir-Faire, the Employment Service of France and several local labor partners.

Hermès reaffirms its commitment to education and training

In a spirit of tutoring focused on the transmission of knowledge and artisanal culture of the house, the Colombian site will be based on the experience of the teams in the group's leather workshops and the Hermès des Savoir-Faire. The school, which has been recognized as a learning training center by the Ministry of Education of France since 2021, will train new artisans in close collaboration with the Regional Education Authority of Normandy and local vocational training partners.

A sustainable and responsible approach

In line with its sustainable development ambitions, Hermès will build the new leather workshop in a brown field site previously owned by the Metallurgique de Normandie (SMN), an old jewel in the Industrial Crown of Normandy that operated in the region from 1917 to 1993. Since 2010, Hermès has opened leather triade in France. The Colombian Maroquinerie will be the leather articles 27 of the house, all of which are in France. Hermès continues to strengthen its role as a socially responsible company, creating long -term and high quality jobs and reaffirming its willingness to contribute to regional development.
