The Marta Ortega Pérez Foundation (MOP), led by the president of the Inditex Fashion Group, will dedicate his fifth exposure to British photographer David Bailey. Known to capture the spirit of the scene of the 1960s in London and its iconic figures, Bailey will be the focus of his first great retrospective in Spain. The exhibition will be held from June 28 to September 14 at battery dock in a coruña.
Titled “The changing fashion of David Bailey”, the exhibition will have more than 140 photographs of the sixties and seventies, including several previously invisible works. The Showcase will focus special on “David Bailey's Pin-ups box”, a 1965 portfolio with images of 36 icons of the London cultural scene at that time, from Jean Shrimpton to Mick Jagger, Rudolf Nureyev, Michael Caine and Cecil Beaton.
The exhibition will also feature a selected selection of objects that reflect the essence of the Bailey study, along with a short film created exclusively for the event that reinterprets the “Pin-ups” of Bailey. A publication inspired by Ritz will also be published, Bailey magazine co -founded with David Litchfield in 1976.
“David Bailey is, without a doubt, the owner of a visual language that is completely his. From the beginning, he remained faithful to his vision, breaking the rules of fashion and photography and the creation of new President of the Foundation that bears her name and her non -executive president of Inditex.
Before David Bailey's exhibition, the foundation space will organize the “Future Stories” group program, with works by four emerging Galician photographers. In addition, the summer program will include a series of talks and conferences under the name of “The Mop Talks”.
The MOP Foundation was launched in April 2022 as a private non -profit entity that promotes and supports culture, art and literature, focusing on audiovisual arts and photography. It also aims to increase the international awareness of a coruña, the birthplace of Inditex and the location of its headquarters in Arteixo.
Since its foundation, the MOP Foundation has presented monographic exhibitions dedicated to Peter Lindbergh, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton and Irving Penn. David Bailey will join the list this summer.
