The Shein Foundation will consolidate the company's existing philanthropic efforts, including those of its Shein Cares and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) initiatives.

In particular, through its mission, the Shein Foundation will prioritize improving life in communities, protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable change.

“Empowering and giving back to the communities we reach has always been core to our operating philosophy,” said Donald Tang, CEO of Shein.

“Establishing the Shein Foundation, and thereby consolidating our charitable efforts under a formal philanthropic structure, brings greater accountability and transparency to our giving. “This also strengthens our ability to direct our charitable giving in a more impactful and sustained way to better support causes and organizations that align with our values.”

To mark its launch, the foundation has committed €5 million (US$5.3 million) to the Africa Collect Textiles (ACT) Foundation, supporting a pilot program in Kenya focused on textile recycling and waste reduction.

The funds are expected to go towards activities that promote textile donation and post-consumer textile recycling in Kenya and the wider African region.

“This project will greatly contribute to our mission to reduce textile waste and close the loop on a more circular fashion ecosystem,” said Elmar Stroomer, director of the ACT Foundation.

“Through this project, we are not only protecting our planet but also creating jobs that will transform lives and provide opportunities to those who need them. “This journey will inspire hope for a more sustainable and equitable future for all.”

Over the past three years, Shein's existing programs have contributed more than $26 million to address social and environmental challenges, including gender equality, child development, poverty alleviation, and textile waste reduction. .
