TV's top stars shined on the Emmys red carpet on Monday, embracing the trends that have emerged in a hectic week of awards shows in Hollywood: red dresses, sumptuous purple dresses and lots of basic, sexy black.
Here's a look at the best looks seen at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles:
women in red
“Succession” star Sarah Snook, who could win best dramatic actress for her work on the popular HBO show, shined in a draped red Vivienne Westwood ballgown with a plunging neckline. A sparkly choker completed the look.
Janelle James, nominated for her work on the hit ABC comedy “Abbott Elementary,” opted for a similar look in a crimson Rodarte dress with a touch of lingerie.
Fellow nominee Camila Morrone (“Daisy Jones & the Six”) also received the nod, wearing a red Versace dress with a train.
Katherine Heigl, who was a guest as part of a “Grey's Anatomy” reunion, channeled Old Hollywood in a strapless red Reem Acra dress with a brooch, the must-have accessory this awards season, adorning the waist.
glamorous black
Black is basically a foolproof choice for the red carpet (or silver carpet, in this case) and several nominees opted for it.
Ayo Edebiri, who won a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award last week for her work in “The Bear,” picked up three Emmys and took home the night's top award in a sculptural strapless leather dress. Louis Vuitton black. .
When asked if her younger self would have imagined her success, Edebiri told E! network: “She didn't dream of nights like this. She More or less dreamed of dental insurance.”
Jennifer Coolidge, winner again Monday for her work in “The White Lotus,” arrived on the red carpet in a flowing black pleated dress with sheer sleeves and a bronze pattern.
And bringing the swagger to the masculine side, “Abbott Elementary” star and nominee Tyler James Williams rocked a leather tuxedo by Dolce and Gabbana (no shirt required).
royal purple
Purple, the color of royalty, reigns supreme in Hollywood right now, perhaps in part due to the release of the new version of “The Color Purple.”
Rachel Brosnahan, a former Emmy winner for “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel” and nominated again on Monday, wore a purple Versace corset dress with a high slit in the front.
She told E! she felt like a “warrior princess.”
Taraji P. Henson wore a sultry sleeveless purple dress with a cutout bodice and showed off quite a bit of leg. The dress had a train, another major trend on the red carpet this season.
Elizabeth Debicki, nominated for her portrayal of the late Princess Diana in “The Crown,” wowed in a regal, backless burgundy velvet column dress by Dior.
And Daniel Radcliffe, nominated for best actor in a miniseries or movie for his portrayal of Weird Al Yankovic (yes, you read that correctly), wore a purple tuxedo with black lapels. By Robyn BECK, with Susan Stumme in Washington
