Primark continues to advance its sustainability strategy and publishes its fourth 'Sustainability and Ethics Progress Report'.

Its 'Primark Cares' sustainability strategy and wider Ethical Trading program sees a number of developments including 74% of its clothing now being made from recycled fibers or more sustainable sources, up from 66% last year.

There is also progress in their approach to circularity, although there is still work to do. Today, 5% of all its clothing, 20% of all its knitwear and 8% of its denim clothing are tested against Primark's durability framework and scalable circular design.

Further greenhouse gas reduction sees emissions across the entire end-to-end value chain decrease by almost 6% from its 2019 baseline.

And on the traceability front, all clothing, textile and footwear suppliers are now incorporated into their own program.

Primark said it will continue to embed its approach to circularity and extending product shelf life into its business. This includes integrating circular design principles into the design and manufacturing of your products; improve product traceability; supporting customers with clothing repair and care options and addressing carbon emissions across its supply chain. The company also continues to prioritize the well-being and rights of workers in its supply chain through a variety of social impact programs that support these workers.

Lynne Walker, director of Primark Cares, said: “We have shown that there is no need to choose between sustainability and value. Our sustainability commitments belong to all of us at Primark and we continue to use our scale to help drive change both inside and outside of Primark.

“We know we have a huge responsibility as a global retailer and there is always more to do, but this year's report shows that our efforts, and those of our suppliers and partners, are starting to drive significant change. We continue to learn as we gather insights and data and greater collaboration across the industry, both crucial to helping us achieve our ambitions in this space.”
