The annual sustainable leather forum of the leather industry will take place on September 8 at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris. Organized by the France Cuir alliance, this seventh edition will focus on water as its central theme, guiding the discussions and conferences of the day.

Sustainable Leather Forum

The speakers of the D'Itudes de la Mer, WWF, the International Council of Tanners, the Qualus tannery solutions and the Haas tanners will address the water management and conservation problems.

“Among the challenges facing the industry, the shortage of water in particular means that we need to change our practices,” said Christophe Dehard, president of the France Cuir alliance. “We need to rethink the way we use water, from the field to the finished product. It is the entire leather value chain.”

Beyond the water, the forum will also explore issues that include crocodile cultivation, recycling of unrewful products, ecological design in footwear and leather, social and environmental responsibility items in the shoes sector, traceability in the leather industry and the impact of agricultural changes in leather production.

Confirmed speakers include representatives of the International Association of Crocodile Breeders, Atelier Des Matières, Textile Exchange, Les Cuirs de l'Ouest, Regredshion and Veja. Other taxpayers will include D'Ophytics, the beautiful entrepreneur, Carbonfact, Spin 360, Textile Genesis, Trustace and Planet-Score.

“We have designed the SLF as a forum for dialogue to promote best practices, promote reflection and support companies in the concrete implementation of social and environmental responsibility,” said Marc Brunel, General Manager of Alliance France Cuir. He stressed that the event also aims to maintain the impulse for the long -term transformation of the industry.

When gathering the various French leather federations, the France Cuir alliance represents around 12,800 companies, generating 133,000 jobs and € 25 billion in income, with most of these income from exports.
