All Shein packages arriving at Roissy-CDG airport are being inspected on Thursday as part of a large operation launched in the morning in the presence of Bercy ministers, a day after the procedure to suspend the platform began, AFP noted.

These controls are intended to support the ongoing procedure against Shein, and “the first conclusions point to non-compliant and illicit products”, including unauthorized cosmetics, toys dangerous for children, counterfeit goods and defective appliances, stated the Minister of Public Accounts, Amélie de Montchalin, in a publication on the social network X.

In the morning she went to Roissy-CDG airport, accompanied by the Minister of Commerce, Serge Papin. In particular, they observed customs officials unpacking numerous white packages bearing the letter S of the Asian platform's brand.

“This shows that we do not sell products to consumers; it means that we import commercial goods, and in that case we apply the rules on commercial imports,” de Montchalin added.

Carried out jointly by the DGCCRF, customs and the air transport gendarmerie, the operation will make it possible to inspect 200,000 packages and verify the conformity of the products, in particular by controlling the “veracity of the declarations and compliance with tax and customs obligations”, stated the Minister of Public Accounts.

Roissy-CDG is the second largest airport in Europe, handling an average of two million tonnes of goods per year and has seen an unprecedented increase in e-commerce flows since 2022, the minister's office told AFP.

Each year, 95% of package flows from China pass through the airport before being distributed throughout the country, according to de Montchalin.
