The collection also includes two limited-edition skate shoe styles: a new version of Alexis' signature Converse CONS AS-1 Pro and a complementary Nike SB Dunk Low.
Anything but uniform, the 2024 federation uniforms are the creative collision of skateboarding style, influence and inclusivity, encouraging freedom of expression and personality to lead, on and off the board.
Nike SB and Converse CONS team up with skater Alexis Sablone for a groundbreaking collaboration, creating unique federation kits and limited edition footwear. Inspired by skate heritage and global connectivity, the collection fuses classic workwear with contemporary style. The collection celebrates diversity and inclusion with styles for every skater.
“It never crossed my mind that I could design uniforms for the federation. On the other hand, there was a time when I didn't even think that skateboarding would be an Olympic sport,” he says. alexis. “When I got the call to design the kits, I had an instinct that said, 'Of course. I am a designer and skater and I competed in the Olympic Games. Why not? Who has the opportunity to do that?'”
Fusing classic workwear pieces, the collections reimagine traditional sportswear with skate ideas, allowing athletes to choose from a wide range of options and aesthetics to best represent their personal style.
Drawing on Alexis's design acumen and decades rooted in skate culture, the collections feature three key pieces linked to the great history of the sport and skateboarding: a bowler hat, a Parisian-inspired coat and a fitted jean. relaxed.
“I knew I had to create enough of a range where there was a style for everyone, whether it was something louder and more graphic or something more subtle and subdued but still with some character,” he says. alexis.
The architect, multidisciplinary creator and former Olympian designed distinctive badges for the USA and Japan kits, combining the countries' iconography, colors and skate ethos with her signature postmodern style.
The US crest, for example, traces back to the genesis of skateboarding on the sun-drenched streets of California by celebrating the free-form experimentation and improvisation that continues to shape the sport's culture today. Alexis juxtaposes timeless American symbols (a rose, an eagle, red and white stripes) with playful characters that evoke the synergy between skateboarding's impulsive energy and its jazz-like expressive flow.
“Sometimes when you start a design, it's helpful to come up with a narrative,” Alexis says. “For example, I thought about the roots of skateboarding in the United States. What is that story? The shield is a simple way through graphic elements to express pride in a place.”
Alexis also combines skateboarding and culture in another shield designed for athletes around the world. The design features a pair of chameleons connected by a wavy illustration of the Earth and centered with four unique species of orchids, one of the most diverse and unpredictable plants on the planet.
A balance of limitless originality and colorful diversity, the shield represents the transcendence of skateboarding and the creative connectivity that unites skaters around the world. Alexis chose the color-changing lizard, she says, “for the simple reason that skaters can look so many ways.”
He incorporated similar themes throughout the footwear collection, manifesting chameleons and their vibrant, unpredictable color patterns across both footwear styles.
The Converse CONS AS-1 Pro and the iconic Nike SB Dunk Low are united by rugged reptile textures and distressed color-changing leather, as well as chameleon camouflage linings. In a distinctive touch to the federation collection, the Swoosh of the Dunk Low is also designed to resemble the characteristic curved tongue of a chameleon.
The Nike SB 2024 federation uniforms and apparel collection will be available on July 18 at select skate shops. The Converse CONS AS-1 Pro and Nike SB Dunk Low will release in an exclusive double pack with both silhouettes on August 22.
