Moncler and Italy's Jony Ive present new outerwear collaboration

September 24 marked the official launch of the LoveFrom, MONCLER collection, inaugurating design legend Jony Ive's first foray into outerwear.

The collaboration is based on the friendship and mutual respect between Jony, Remo and their respective teams at LoveFrom and Moncler. The collection combines Jony's influential design mastery with Moncler's technical excellence and limitless creativity to create exclusive fabrics, meticulous design details and a reinvention of the humble button.

“Who I work with has become more important to me than what I work for,” he said. Sir Jony Ive, founder of LoveFrom. “Our collaboration has been wonderfully simple and joyful. “We have learned a lot from each other and I am particularly happy that this modest collection marks the beginning of a longer-term collaboration.”

The LoveFrom, MONCLER collection presents Jony Ive's first outerwear line, combining his iconic design with Moncler's technical innovation. Featuring a seamless construction with recycled nylon, a magnetic “Duo Button” and an interchangeable layer system (field jacket, parka and poncho), the collection highlights meticulous craftsmanship, friendship and long-term collaboration.

“Working with Jony takes you out of the ordinary,” he said. Ruffini Remo. “This is not only due to the fact that he is a global icon and a living design legend. Working with Jony is also an experience because you realize that love, friendship and respect are always at the center and allow creativity and ideas.”

Seamless construction

The design was inspired by Moncler's innovative development of a new high-quality recycled nylon. Developed exclusively for the LoveFrom collaboration, the yarn-dyed fibers have been taslanized, a treatment in which compressed air textures the yarn giving it a matte appearance and the look of a natural fiber. The fabric was made on unusually large looms, allowing each garment to be made from a single piece of fabric that folded easily.

The collection is a system of three shells that connect to a central core. The shells are evolutions of the iconic military jacket, parka and poncho, and attach quickly and easily to the core with a charming magnetic button. The utilitarian shapes reflect Sir Jony's interest in subcultures that celebrate the subversion of functionality, contrasting with a family of soft colors.

Introducing the 'Duo Button'

The connection between the two brands is summed up in a physical symbol that is central to the collaboration: the ingenious magnetic “Duo button.” The outer garments adhere to each core using this unique layering system. The logos of both brands are intricately etched into the metal. Designed with aluminum, brass, steel and a high-quality heat-resistant magnet, the two elements fit together with a satisfying “click”, a sound that Jony Ive became obsessed with during the design process and that represents attraction and association. by LoveFrom. and Moncler.

LoveFrom designed and engineered a series of new processes and machines to manufacture and integrate this innovative new bra, including an entirely new method to precisely cut multiple layers of fabric.

A story of friendship

Moncler's traditional comic book care instructions continue to feature Monduck, with special guest Montgomery, the LoveFrom bear. The core is available in yellow, the field jacket in green, the parka in light blue and the poncho in orange. All garments are also available in off-white.

In detail

Moncler and LoveFrom are united by an obsessive attention to detail and a devotion to excellence, a combination that has brought an invigorating new aesthetic to Moncler's iconic design codes. Labels, subtle markings, buttons, trims and pulls have been meticulously considered and reworked, with skillful typology showing that no detail should be left to chance in the design process.

This includes the packaging: refined with black and white graphics and confident in its simplicity. The packaging contains a playful interpretation of the collection itself, with small paper models of the garments that playfully illustrate how they can be layered. The inner box of the packaging is made of a single piece of paper that is assembled by folding, just as jackets are made from a single piece of fabric, and then the box is assembled by folding.

All packaging is made with 40% recycled paper.
