Self-titled designer Masaba Gupta showcased a vibrant 20-piece capsule collection in Florida, USA to bring her global vision of desi Heritage style to Miami Art Week and participate in its 'Art from the Indian Eye' event.
“India has been my greatest source of inspiration and I wear it on my sleeve, now more than ever as we make our debut at Art Basel, Miami,” founder and design director Masaba Gupta said in a press release. “I'm not just representing India, I'm unleashing it. What started as a dream of playing with prints and all things kitsch has grown into one of the most recognized Indian brands in fine jewellery, luxury bridal wear and more.”
At 'Art from the eye of India', visitors explored the art, culture and heritage of India as a curated selection of women's wear designs by Gupta were complemented by the poetry of Rupi Kaur. The event brought together creatives such as Rajiv Menon, who exhibited his work at Art Basel, and Art Basel Asia representative Angelle Le Siyang, who offered their ideas as guest speakers and contributed to cultural exchange between India and the global art community.
Gupta presented fine clothing and jewelery in the showcase titled 'Ghee-Shakkar', meaning clarified butter and sugar, a phrase that symbolizes auspicious beginnings and abundance. Intricate embroideries, iridescent textiles and fusion-style silhouettes presented a fun and joyful vision of India's rich aesthetic and craft traditions and offered wearable opulence to a global audience.

“The narrative unfolds in both black and white and bursts of color, ultimately culminating in a gorgeous hot pink gulal,” said Gupta. “The motifs of the garments are steeped in culture, drawing on cosmic patterns, ancient cityscapes and the textures of an India that are timeless and constantly evolving.”
Miami Art Week took place December 1-7 at numerous locations around the city, and the public fair took place December 5-7. Through her presence during Miami Design Week, Gupta sought to celebrate Indian culture and build meaningful international connections in the art and fashion industries.
