For its 11th artistic edition, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche invites Chinese artist Song Dong, a leading figure in contemporary art, to an exhibition titled 'Objets divers et variés – 百货 (băihuò)', which will be held from January 10 to February 22, 2026. Known for exploring memory, family and urban transformation, he breathes new life into everyday objects.
The artist, who has exhibited in major museums including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, left a lasting impression with 'Waste Not', an installation composed of the personal objects accumulated by his mother throughout her life. Through this gesture, he explores the sentimental and social value of objects, at the intersection of personal history and collective memory.
For the exhibition at Le Bon Marché, the store windows will become a participatory work of art. Customers and employees are invited to loan an object purchased at Le Bon Marché, along with the story behind it. The pieces selected by Song Dong will merge into an installation rich in emotions and shared memories.
Two monumental installations will also take place beneath the central glass canopies, while an immersive experience will be offered on the second floor of the store. A call for participation has been open since the beginning of October 2025 and can be accessed using a QR code available on the Le Bon Marché website.
With this exhibition, Song Dong reminds us that each object carries a story and that, when intertwined, these stories tell something of our shared memory.
