Indian designer Urvashi Kaur celebrates 15 years in fashion at LFW

Urvashi Kaur, the visionary force behind a decade and a half of innovative fashion, commemorated her 15-year journey with a spectacular display at Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) in association with FDCI. The exhibition, titled 'Voices of Urvashi Kaur', was a testament to the brand's easy subversion of social constructs and its unwavering commitment to inclusivity and creative disruption.

The show celebrated the collective impact of its multitude of visionaries and changemakers who have shaped not only the brand narrative, but have pioneered large-scale impact across industries. Through this experiential performance, Urvashi Kaur's muses took center stage, dressed in timeless silhouettes that embodied the brand's spirit of authenticity and individuality. Transcending conventional norms, the exhibition embraced and celebrated Kaur's eco-design mastery.

Among his distinguished muses were veteran actor Ratna Pathak Shah, renowned artist Santanu Hazarika, talented actors Tillotama Shome, Rasika Duggal, Shweta Tripathi, Mallika Dua, Kaustav and creative extraordinaires like Vibha Galhotra, Gurjeet Singh, Faraz Ansari and Suvir Saran , to name a few. Each muse's ensemble was meticulously curated and designed to serve as a tactile extension of their own personal identity, the company said in a press release.

Urvashi Kaur celebrated 15 years in fashion with 'Voices of Urvashi Kaur' at Lakme Fashion Week. Renowned personalities showcased select ensembles, while the latest collection, 'Prana', infused ancient textiles with contemporary style. Kaur emphasized authenticity, sustainability and timeless, genderless designs, celebrating the collective impact on fashion.

The set design, made from recycled packaging materials such as tetra packs, symbolizes the brand's dedication to conscious design and environmental responsibility. Accompanied by the restorative sounds of Martin Dubois's African harp and handpan, the Urvashi Kaur workshop show was an immersive experience that represented the culmination of the change that has shaped the industry thus far and a harbinger of more to come.

The highlight of the exhibition was the presentation of Urvashi Kaur's latest collection 'Prana'; an extension of their current 'Renew' project. 'Prana' explored primordial energy through a visual exploration that transcends beyond the tangible. Reimagining ancient heirlooms as new silhouettes, the collection revived these unique textiles, with intuitive placement, organic movement and elemental color. It seamlessly combined indigenous artisanal techniques with the house's signature contemporary aesthetic, intertwining heritage and innovation.

The 'Renew' project breathes new life into archival textiles with distinctive contemporary aesthetics, adopting zero waste, eco-design and recycling techniques. Each garment tells a story of evolution, highlighting the brand's commitment to slow, conscious design and the preservation of artisanal ancestors.

“We are delighted to have commemorated this important milestone with an exhibition that celebrated innovation, incisive disruption and the power of collective impact,” said Kaur. “This experience was a reflection of the past 15 years and a testament to our commitment to creating safe spaces for people to authentically express themselves. That's why our designs are genderless, inclusive and timeless. We stand out from the noise of virality because we feel different. Raw and organic, we leave the rest to the imagination and eventually to experience. With a more reflective and serious approach, our quiet voice speaks volumes in its own conceptually non-conformist and aspirational way. We seek to evoke and excite through our disarmed approach, celebrating our traditional, cultural and ethnic legacies.

The presentation of 'Voices of Urvashi Kaur' at Lakme Fashion Week in association with FDCI was a transformative experience, offering the audience a glimpse into the brand's evolution so far, its dedication to pushing boundaries and fostering a space where Creativity knows no limits.
