Hermes will open its 25th leather goods workshop in France in 2026

Hermes' twenty-fifth leatherwork workshop in France will open in 2026 and will ultimately employ 260 artisans trained in the house's exceptional know-how. La Maroquinerie de Loupes will be Hermes' second production center in the Gironde, following the opening of the workshop in Saint-Vincent-de-Paul in September 2021.

The Gironde center will allow artisans to transmit the culture of the saddlery and leather goods trade and the know-how of the house. At the Ecole Hermes des savoir-faire, an apprentice training center accredited by the French Ministry of Education and inaugurated in the center of Gironde in 2023, Hermes artisan trainers teach the techniques of excellence in leather working. As advisors certified by the Ministry, they grant the French CAP professional title in fur and the CQP (certificate of professional qualification) in cutting and sewing, the company indicates in a statement.

For its recruitment needs, Hermes collaborates with local partners such as France Travail Nouvelle Aquitaine, as well as the adult education service GRETA-CFA Aquitaine and the Charles Péguy institute in Eysines. The next class will begin their training in October 2024.

Hermes announces the opening of its 25th leather goods workshop in Loupes, France by 2026, employing 260 artisans. It aims to preserve and pass on leather-working expertise through its center in Gironde, which includes an apprentice training centre. By collaborating with local partners, Hermes is strengthening its commitment to regional development.

Hermes has strong roots in the region, with the glove and leather goods workshop Ganterie-Maroquinerie de Saint-Junien (Haute-Vienne), and the Maroquineries de Nontron (Dordogne), Montbron (Charente), Saint-Vincent-de-Paul ( Gironde) and soon L'Isle d'Espagnac (Charente), which will open in 2025. The new Maroquinerie de Loupes will become the sixth production plant for Hermes Leather Goods and Saddlery in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The house reinforces its role as a socially responsible company, creates quality jobs and reaffirms its intention to contribute sustainably to regional development throughout France. To establish this new manufacturing site, Hermes worked with the Communaute de Communes du Créonnais and Sysdau, a mixed union run by the local authority l'Aire Métropolitaine Bordelaise.
