Hermes opens a new store in Mitsukoshi Ginza, Tokyo

Hermès has announced the opening of its second store in Ginza, located on the first floor of the iconic Mitsukoshi retailer. The spatial design, which encourages visitors to discover the crafts of the house, is inspired by the city by day and by night, as well as by its dynamic energy, supported by the rich colour contrasts in the lights, reflections and geometry of urban signs.

The store's central window above the Mitsukoshi entrance features a 3D horse silhouette that can be discovered from the street. The spirit of the house is revealed through this artistic display made of metal and seen only from certain angles. A semi-transparent origami screen allows natural light to shine through the four additional windows and illuminate the store.

Hermès opens its second Ginza store in Mitsukoshi, with a vibrant design that reflects the day-to-night energy of Tokyo. The space includes a prominent display with a 3D horse silhouette and a yellow and pink mosaic floor. Several themed areas showcase perfumes, leather goods and fashion. The decoration integrates iconic Hermès elements with local inspirations.

Upon entering the store from inside the mall, visitors are greeted by a yellow and pink mosaic floor. This cross-shaped mosaic guides you towards a cocoon of wavy panels in pink tones, where perfumes are revealed along with the universe of home, feminine silk and fashion jewelry. At the back of the store, the leather and equestrian collections are on display: to the right, the watches and jewelry area is wrapped in yellow origami marquetry, while to the left, a path of aisles leads to two fitting rooms, a salon and three different salons that show women's and men's footwear respectively, followed by the universe of women's and men's ready-to-wear. Each area features a custom rug in vibrant colors, with horizontal stripes that evoke the play of light and reflections of Ginza's pedestrian crossings, Hermes said in a press release.

Parisian architectural firm RDAI has designed the environment to evoke the chic and vibrant atmosphere of Ginza, while seamlessly integrating the house’s codes. Iconic details are woven throughout, from the Grecques lights to the Faubourg mosaic embedded in the speckled terrazzo floor. A sunny palette of red, pink, taupe, mauve, amber and yellow harmonises with the warm cedar wood panelling and cherry wood furniture. Walls and enclaves are swathed in bright wallpapers and fabrics in soft neutral tones, including rust and champagne hues.

The décor is adorned with selected artworks from the Émile Hermès collection and photographs from the Hermès contemporary photography collection. These include an out-of-place composition of a horse's mane captured by Belgian photographer Harry Gruyaert. To celebrate this opening, artwork by French artists Zim and Zou enliven the windows. The Parisian flagship store is transformed into a flying boat with a prow reminiscent of a horse's head and that looks relentlessly forward while recalling the origins of Hermès. Flying Faubourg explores the wonders the world has to offer and invites guests to contemplate the architectural feats that make up Tokyo.
