Luxury men's retailer Harry Rosen announced Monday a garment bag recycling program, the first of its kind in North America, launched in partnership with TerraCycle.

While many retailers use garment bags made from recycled materials, the new program will go a step further by ensuring these bags have a second life and stay out of landfills.

“We are taking big steps to reduce our carbon footprint with this new packaging partnership with TerraCycle,” said Ian Rosen, President and COO of Harry Rosen.

“Our brand's vision for a more sustainable future starts with ensuring we meet our customers' expectations and pride ourselves on offering them options that minimize the environmental impact of every purchase.”

To participate in the program, customers can return bags of used clothing to any Harry Rosen location, except Outlet stores. TerraCycle will then collect and recycle the bags into various products such as gym mats, bike seats, pillows and more, further extending their useful life.

To incentivize participation, Harry Rosen will charge a $2 Green TerraCycle fee for each suit and pants provided at checkout in store. Customers will then receive 500 Club Harry points ($5 value) for each returned bag, which can be redeemed for future purchases. A maximum of four credits will be issued per customer per month.

The initiative follows the launch of new packaging, characterized by a return to the brand's iconic green aesthetic, 'Harry's Green'. The packaging is 100% recyclable and is made up of 40% post-consumer waste (PCW), including the bag handles. Additionally, the packaging is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, ensuring responsible sourcing from managed forests.

The launch of the garment bag recycling program also coincides with the retailer's preparations for its 70th anniversary celebrations in the fall.
