Fashion takes centre stage at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was a spectacular fusion of fashion and art, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and style. Swiss designer Kevin Germanier, renowned for his extravagant and innovative aesthetic, was in charge of creating the costumes for the event, which highlighted his ability to transform recycled materials into haute couture pieces.

The Paris 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony highlighted fashion and sustainability, with designer Kevin Germanier creating eco-friendly garments including the standout “Golden Voyager.” Artists including Yseult, Zaho De Sagazan and Billie Eilish dazzled in designs by Louis Vuitton, Dior and Ralph Lauren, which combined style and environmental responsibility.

Germanier, chosen for its commitment to eco-design, designed the stage costumes for more than 120 dancers, including the standout ‘Golden Voyager’, who wowed audiences in a striking recycled gold jumpsuit embroidered with 20,000 pearls. These sustainable creations were largely produced at the Ateliers de la Montjoie in Saint-Denis, using eco-friendly fabrics sourced through LVMH’s green initiative, Nona Source. French singer-songwriter Yseult dazzled in a black silk faille suit designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior, topped off with a hat reimagined by hat designer Stephen Jones.

During the ceremony, French singer-songwriter Zaho De Sagazan wowed spectators with the floating cauldron, symbol of the Games, as a backdrop. She wore a black jersey bodysuit with tulle inserts, paired with a two-tone silk skirt with flounces, and completed her look with black leather derby shoes by Louis Vuitton. Swimming legend and Louis Vuitton ambassador Leon Marchand played a key role in extinguishing the Olympic flame, dressed in an ensemble by the luxury brand.

The event also featured a star-studded cast of performers dressed by some of the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas sported preppy Ralph Lauren outfits, while French rock band Phoenix oozed style in sleek ensembles by French luxury fashion house Celine. French tenor Benjamin Bernheim graced the stage in an extravagant Dior outfit.
