EssilorLuxottica invests more than $300 million in Mexico

EssilorLuxottica, the largest eyewear manufacturer in the world, strengthens its presence in Mexico with the opening of two production plants in the northwest of the country, both developed in January. The Franco-Italian conglomerate invested $300 million in the two factories.

An event led by Giorgio Striano and Norbert Gorny, co-chief operating officers of the company, marked the official launch of the “Eliot” integrated laboratory (EssilorLuxottica Integrated Optical Facility in Tijuana) in Baja California, a complex valued at $172 million. This facility will use advanced manufacturing techniques to produce up to 10 million additional prescription glasses per year.

According to local government data, it is estimated that in a period of five years, “Eliot” will generate up to 2,500 direct jobs with highly qualified personnel.

It should be noted that the new plant located in El Florido becomes EssilorLuxottica's second facility in Tijuana.

In addition to Baja California, representatives of EssilorLuxottica ventured to Chihuahua to inaugurate a $130 million plant located in the Bafar Industrial Park. This complex will manufacture lenses and frames using innovative, environmentally responsible and state-of-the-art processes that prioritize water conservation and waste utilization.

The plant, which will create 2,000 jobs, is designed as a smart factory that uses modern cyber, production and automation systems to improve employee safety, reduce waste and maintain product quality.

EssilorLuxottica was born in 2018 after the merger of the Italian Luxottica and the French Essilor. The luxury glasses manufacturer revealed in its latest report corresponding to the third quarter of 2023 that it had increased its revenue by 6.2% in Latin America compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 377 million euros.
